So I’m not a monster; I don’t have any minions,
My mum’s not made me an axe; my agent has no opinions;
I’ve got no pact or contract and I look kinda funny,
But as a gay space elf (Eladrin) I’ll give you a run for your money.

I began as a sea elf living in Old Ptolus City,
A Bard in House Dalamoth; sweet gig, sitting pretty,
Delving with 10th level chums, from the Docks to the Spire,
Of that City by the sea we never will tire.

I threw spells and sang charms and used wands to do healing,
Use of Magic devices is the skill for believing
That Bards can do everything given half a chance
With a ring of evasion leading all a merry dance.

Keen elven weapon training meant that using my bow
I could fire into combat and with Precise Shot hit my foe
And even if occasionally my aim was quite awful
Can’t be helped and who cares? You try being alignment non-lawful!

But the fateful day came when all the angels had fallen
Moons spun in their orbits, Rune Children were called on
To defend as we had to spite the Prophecy’s sway
And our heroes quests were completed and as it was release day…

…We switched up to 4th, ‘stead of Spells I have Powers.
And adventuring in Sharn, Ebberon’s city of towers.
War Forged, Shifters and Gnolls from the last war’s battalion
Our motley crew’s base of Ops is a Lyrandar galleon!

For this is the tale of an Elf turned Eladrin,
(‘Cos the intelligence bonus is clearly worth havin’)
PHB2 ensures I’m still playing a Bard
Converted 3rd into 4th Ed. It’s REALLY not very hard!

And yes I can heal with my shiny new power
From a distance or in combat when the monsters tower
Over my head, with Majestic Words I do urge
You to regain 4 more hit points, oh and spend a surge!

And if that fiend’s proving tricky and harder to sock
With harsh language and bile I shall viciously mock,
taunt and anger the creature so greatly that you
will find it easier to take down with defence minus 2!

We work well as a group as our new roles compliment
One another’s, we’re Heroic! Success up a hundred percent!
But if you think I’m not tough ‘cos I live and let live,
Then just pick up your die and roll initiative!

For yes I’m Jack of all trades, maybe master of none
But my all rounder’s a killer and my party will have fun
As I back up, slide and assist them in handing you your rear
Then write a sonnet to remember it on my Fochlucan bandolier!

And the moral of this tale if you’ll please raise your flagon
That no matter the Edition of your Dungeon or Dragon
It’s a game.  Of stories and fights and of heroes Die Hard.
So listen up! Pay attention! To the new 4th no holds Bard!

dirgrimforgemane

Dirgrim Forgemane is a Dwarf with a mission. Armed with his faith in the Iron God, a flagon or three of mead and more than his fair share of black powder he seeks the mysterious Black Grail in the far off city of Ptolus. This city by the spire will see Dirgrim brave the horrors of the bane warrens themselves as he seeks to keep this terrible artefact from falling into the hands of the maniacal cults of chaos. Being of sometimes….debatable morals, Dirgrim’s unswerving faith, loyalty to his friends and tendency to make things that explode at the worst possible moment have seen him through many tight spots…which considering his height must have been very tight indeed!

Third Edition - Race: Dwarf     Class: Cleric (Level 10)    Total Level: 10

Favourite Class Feature:

Spontaneous Casting - The ability to convert spells to healing spells on the fly made every fight more interesting! No more did the Cleric in the party have to become solely the band aid in order to be useful! Healing constantly round on round can soon get dull – knowing that you have that flame strike up your sleeve for emergencies makes the whole process much more exciting!

Favourite Feats:

Leadership is a feat that always seemed to be over looked in 3rd Ed. Often ignored in favour of feats that provide more a more mechanical bonus, I wouldn’t have swapped this feat for the world! Who cares about dealing an extra few points of damage or acting a little bit quicker when instead you can attract Torros Pol (apparently the name Thog™ was taken!), the Orcish pyromaniac barbarian sorcerer to encourage you on your travels! The roleplay, emotion and comedy generated by this one simple feat far out ways all of the others for me!

Fourth EditionRace: Dwarf     Class: Avenger (Level 10)    Total Level: 10

Favourite Class or Race feature:

Nothing quite typifies a Dwarf’s sturdiness under version 4 than their Stand your ground ability. It always conjures an image of a sturdy, stocky Dwarf bracing against countless blows and not giving an inch of ground! I’ve lost count of the number of times it’s stopped Dirgrim from being pushed into a pit or off the precarious ledge he’s found himself on and even now it never fails to raise a smile!

Favourite Powers:

Oath of the final duel has led to some of the most exciting, interesting and comical encounters I’ve ever played in! Nothing is more annoying than the evil bad guy sacrificing his minions to allow him to escape. This power keeps you yapping at their heels and encourages you to keep pressing the attack – just like any good Dwarf should! Combine it with Whirlwind Charge and you have a dirty combo that has been the downfall of many an evil fiend – the fact that it has helped Dirgrim survive his crazy charge on more than one occasion is a very welcome side effect!

Favourite Feats:

All of the “Initiate” multi class feats are brilliant for really helping you create a truly original and customised character. Initiate of the Faith really helped to convert Dirgrim to 4th Edition. He was never your typical cleric, always rushing in where even Angels feared to tread – for which he always taunted his half celestial friend! Being able to gain access to cleric abilities like Healing Word helped to keep him true to his 3rd edition roots (and help keep his party members alive!) while still allowing him to go off in new and exciting directions under 4th Ed!
